Ric Bell Tutorial

Me and Naomi took the opportunity of having a tutorial with Ric Bell today and it proved helpful in clarifying issues and making decisions which would allow us to move forward with the rest of the brief after what has been a successful first week on the project.

He really liked the custom type ideas that we had come up with, particularly my serif typeface and also some of Naomi's abstract shapes which could be used as a logo. Ric agreed with our idea of having a consistent element in the typeface which could then be used as a logo on its own. Therefore I'm going to develop the serif typeface to include the abstract shape that Naomi created.

Ric also suggested some other things such as using Plasticoat spray and stencil in place of screen printing a spot varnish, and to look at how we could apply the logo as a pattern to many different elements of the restaurant; menus, furnishings, uniforms, flooring.

Our idea of using patterns constructed from the abstract logos taken from the letters was appreciated, and he said to make sure the pattern element flowed throughout the different printed resolutions.
