Type Workshop 2

Proverb - Gill Sans Italic 60pt
Remember that type is speech. Break a sentence where there is a pause.

Guide viewer around the page.

Middle to bottom to top.

Bottom to top, second variation.

Make the viewer read the page from bottom to top using the words One - Four. Use one typeface.

Layout - It is one thing to grab someones attention or move them around a page but its another thing to actually make them read it.

Looking at something is different to reading something.

JONATHAN - Futura Medium 60pt

RAILWAY - Georgia Bold 60pt

LAVISH - Arial Bold 60pt

Kerning - The moving of individual letters either closer together or further apart and can be used to either speed up or slow down the reading of text. When kerning a word you should look to find the largest white space or 'problem gap' and make that the consistent space between the letterforms. Look at the word from a distance. Where is the white space? There should never be any negative kerning, only move the letterforms further apart.
