Top 10... Resolved Disc and Packaging

Im really pleased and actually quite proud of the finished look of the packaging now its all together complete with disc. I believe it has a very professional appearance and the packaging design clearly and appropriately reflects the content of the DVD. Looking at the resolved work, I believe I have produced a very competent all-round piece for the Top 10 brief.

Top 10... Ident 4

The final ident features the end part of the main title sequence with the text and logo fading in co-ordinated with the signal pulses from the Tokyo Tower.

Top 10... Ident 3

The third ident features Mt. Fuji and the bullet train which brings in text in a different way to the other idents which help to make the short sequences a little more diverse.

Top 10... Ident 2

The second ident uses the rising sun section of the title sequence and the audio had to be faded in and out as in was cut from the middle section of the animation.

Top 10... Ident 1

The first ident features the petal and branch sequence from the beginning of the animation. The day and time have been highlighted in a pink colour from one of the cherry blossom petals and the Bebas font has been continued through to give a consistency to the work.

Note taking and planning of the idents that are to be cut from the finished title sequence.

Top 10... Final Crit Title Sequence and Feedback

The title sequence is almost completed and any other alterations can be made along with other considerations mentioned by people giving feedback on my work in the crit.

Feedback.

Visual Quality :

1. Visuals work really well, clean, appropriate, good development from last time. Your initial concept between traditional and modern Japan has been resolved well! Visual research is also well developed.
2. In the scene with the mountain there is a gap - consider closing the gap to look neater. Two of the skyscraper lights come on a different times - fix it to make it smoother. Have you considered using type through the sequence?
3. Visual quality is very good, sharp and vivid colours. Not sure about the audio - a bit sedate, however, it fits the overall pace.

Technical Quality :

1. Pace and music work really well together. Movements work. Maybe the red sun shouldn't  be as visible or present throughout or as much - fade down?
2. Some really impressive technical skills (branches and petals) followed by some much more basic. Consider showing more technical skills throughout.
3. The transitions work well. Could be a little quicker in places. Mountain needs to be a little futher down in the frame (25seconds)

Documentation and Presentation :

1. Good development, program documented. More annotations needed on blog posts. Evaluation throughout on different steps. Great sound choice - Spot on!
2. Not loads of evidence of development and experimenting. Critically evaluate your work and design decisions more.
3. Good use of story boards. Well crafted. Visually tells the story and relates to finished sequence.

Additional Comments :

1. Idents? Channel? Design for the packaging? - good Muji idea but needs developing. 1st initial storyboards are well developed and feed into understanding the final piece. Tag posts on your blog more.
2. Intro is really strong and impressive - especially the first half. Good storyboards!
3. Edge of cityscape is visible at (00:00:10 Secs) The titles are repeated at the start and finish - is this appropriate? Maybe 'Tokyo' should just fade in or start without the 'Top 10'. As someone who doesn't know anything about Tokyo, I don't know what the images relate to.

Top 10... Title Sequence Development

Quite a big development from the last video, with three sequences now stitched together and the audio added as well. The sequence is really taking shape but I will need to go back and smooth out transitions and alter positions of things etc to help it flow more.
I also need to consider how the title sequence will be divided up to form the four individual idents. Within the title sequence there seems to be naturally occurring segments which should work out well as separate idents for the programme.

Nesting Compositions for Final Sequence

Top 10... Further Asset Development

Variation of type layout that was used at the start of the sequence and will be used at the end when the title appears above the Tokyo skyline.

Introducing trees as shown in my revised story boards which will help to fill a bit of space in the landscape around Mt. Fuji and the Imperial Palace. They will also help to hide the harsh edge of the cityscape that moves in from the right of the screen.

Mt.Fuji and Imperial Palace

Beginning of the middle section of the sequence where I've started bringing in the vectorised assets of Mt. Fuji and the Imperial Palace. Im really happy with the way they look and the colour scheme so far, I feel it has a nice flow and harmonious and tranquil oriental feel to it.
Need to bring in the chosen audio soon to co-ordinate sound and movements.

Top 10... Audio Test 3

I've decided to use audio from this video I found on Youtube for my title sequence, I will cut the first 50 seconds from the 5 minute piece and it is exactly what I was looking for.

Top 10... Audio Test 2

This audio was taken from the same site as the first one and is slightly better but it is quite repetitive and could easily become boring or annoying over 50 seconds.

Top 10... Audio Test

I've now started looking more urgently at audio as advised from a chat with Lorraine so that I will be able to co-ordinate movements with it later on in the sequence. I found this from a royalty free audio site and it has the kind of tempo Im looking for but it doesn't sound oriental enough.

Top 10... Rising Sun

Rising Sun from Jonathan Finch on Vimeo.

I've started a new composition for the next section using the Japanese rising sun and will then nest it inside another composition when completed. Compared to the earlier section of the title sequence, this part took a very short amount of time to do but I think it works very well and will create a smooth and seamless link into the main body of the title sequence.

top 10... Beginning of Title Sequence 4

Title Sequence 4 from Jonathan Finch on Vimeo.

Colour Blend and Opacity keyframes used to introduce red circle that appears as a result of the moving petals. I feel the animation is really starting to take shape now and Im looking forward to introducing the other drawn assets I've created and moving on with it as it has taken me a while to get some of the complex masking and movements at the start finalised.

Opening Sequence Development

Screenshots to show next stage of the title sequence with the pink petals turning the 'O' red and it will eventually become the Japanese rising sun which will link into the next scene. I've also put in the newsprint background which really brings alive the delicate pink shades of the petals.
